Cool!! Nanjing peacocking with new green spaces The eastern Chinese city of Nanjing has kicked off an urban greening drive by unveiling a pair of massive topiary peacocks in a square that has been closed off for four years while a subway line was built. The peacocks are a reminder of classical Chinese poem “Southeast Fly the Peacocks.” The birds are seen as an auspicious symbol of happiness and beauty in China. City authorities have promised to overhaul the design of the square every April and December, mainly by adding seasonal plants. And Nanjingers can reportedly expect to see more public green spaces added by the end of this year. (Photos: CFP)
