The Sikhs were very few in numbers. Nadir Shah raided Delhi in the year 1739. After loot and plunder, he was carrying all the treasures worth 700 million rupees and carts filled with both Hindu women and children.

The news was delivered to Sardar Jassa Singh who was the Commander of the Sikh army at that time. He decided to attack Nadir Shah’s Kafila on the same midnight. He did so and rescued all the Hindu women and children and they were safely sent to their homes.

It happened everytime Abdalis (Eight invasions from 1748 to 1767) or Iranis came to Hindustan and while trying to carry the treasures along with Hindu women and children, for selling them in Abdal markets, the Sikh army (although fewer in numbers) attacked them at midnight, 12 O’clock and rescued all the women and children. Everytime there was a need, people started to contact the Sikh army for help and the Sikhs responded by attacking the raiders at midnight, 12 O’clock. The Sikhs were very few in numbers.
