 Ganoderma aplanatum
Many people have seen the ganoderma epallantum at one time or another; It is widely distributed and fairly common - usually seen at the base of hardwood stumps or on hardwood logs. It is sometimes referred to as an "artist's fungus" , as its white-to-gray surface turns brown and maintains injury for years when picking and ingesting mushrooms. I have seen very intricate and beautiful carvings on Ganoderma applanatum at craft stores and yard sales. However, my own efforts in ganoderma art have not been very beautiful until you say a derogatory woodland note to my mushroom friend.
