White THE WOMAN ACROSS THE STREET RECAP Robin’s glance fell on a woman across the street. He saw her holding a wine glass and a book through her window. She was dancing. But suddenly, she raised her hand as if resisting some action. Within seconds, her wine glass fell down, and she, too, fell like a lifeless leaf. Robin rushed to inform the watchman of the building and was shocked when the watchman said that a woman had been murdered around two months ago in that apartment. The investigation team had found a broken wine glass and a book near her body. The similarities in the watchman’s narration and what he saw made Robin rooted to the spot. When the watchman asked Robin the reason behind his approach, he stated that he felt someone needed help, hiding the reality he witnessed. He thought that it may create unnecessary confusion. The watchman advised him not to imagine things. The apartment is empty. Only a couple of hours before the investigation, they had routinely inspected the apartment. Taking a deep breath, Robin returned to his apartment. THE WOMAN ACROSS THE STREET – PART 2 "Noted, and thanks," Robin said before proceeding to his apartment. He refrained from mentioning what he saw, which might have created unnecessary ripples. "Oh my God," Robin sighed as he opened the door to his apartment. He sat on the sofa and reminisced about the past day as he whispered, "After arriving home at noon, I was exhausted, and the next moment, I found myself in his bed, drifting into a deep . Perhaps the security officer was correct in assuming that I was imagining things. The woman I saw across the street might just be a dream, given that I had crossed the street shortly after waking up, and did I really have my tea before leaving? Or was it also a dream?" He brainstormed all possibilities and pulled the curtain aside, only to see the apartment with closed windows and slid curtains and lights off with nothing visible inside. He chuckled, turned around and declared, "It was indeed a dream." He then took a deep sigh before closing the curtain. As he made his way towards the kitchen, he felt a prickling sensation under his foot, and his gaze landed on a broken tea cup. He felt the spilled-over tea on the floor and began to wonder how it fell and broke, and then he realized that after he woke up, he did have his tea. To confirm, he walked into the kitchen and found a tea strainer sieve with wet tea powder in the sink, which confirmed that the tea wasn't a dream and that he, in fact, had his tea, irrespective of whether he had left his apartment or not. Robin picked up a glass, filled it with water, and as he began to drink, he assumed, "Oh my God, if I had tea, then I surely might have tried to close the curtain, which normally I do as the sun sets. But why is the broken tea cup on the floor? Did it fall out of my hands? If yes, then how did the tea cup fall? What made me throw the tea cup down?" Again, all types of ifs and buts began to take shape in his mind as he tried to connect the dots. "Oh no! Robin yelled as he finally could figure out the answer to all his questions and rushed to slide open the curtain again. To be continued... ©Krishnan #mystery #suspense #microtale #ShortStory
